4/23/05 - Is it possible to add a legal basement apartment?
Generally it is not possible because fire codes specify that there must be 2 easy exits directly to the outside from every living unit. Usually the basement windows are too small to get out - there might be an outside entrance - but no other way out except up into the home, which is unacceptable.
